The SS United States: A Photographer's Playground (Part 1)

The SS United States Conservancy’s permanent collections are an important component of the organization’s larger curatorial efforts to preserve both the tangible and intangible history of American's Flagship, the SS United States.

One of our favorite photos from the permanent collections is full of life. Coming courtesy of passenger Chester Kishel, Jr., it depicts a cool, confident subject framed perfectly by the ship's life boat davits:

Through generous donations from individuals around the world, the SS United States Conservancy’s archives continue to grow boasting a variety of objects such as passenger lists, menus, life vests, film footage, paintings, and scale models of the ship itself! Donate today to support the Conservancy’s commitment to not only ensuring the long-term preservation of its permanent collections and thus the history of America’s Flagship, but also to making these items available to the public through exhibitions and other innovative outreach opportunities that can make a lasting impact on future generations.
